Oktoberfest is a 3-week festival that runs from mid to late September until the first Sunday in October in MUNICH , GERMANY . Locally it is called d’Wiesn , after the colloquial name of the fairgrounds, THERESIENWIESE .

It is a very important part of Bavarian culture , held since 1810 .

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE FESTIVAL AND HOW TO GET THERE

Large quantities of OKTOBERFEST BEER are consumed during the event : for example, during the 16 days of the festival in 2013, 7.7 million liters were served to 6 million visitors. They will also be able to enjoy numerous attractions, such as rides, side stands and games.

From MUNICH AIRPORT , you can reach the Oktoberfest in 3 WAYS.

Train from Flughafen München (11€): take the S-Bahn S1 or S8 and you will arrive at Hackerbrucke . From there, continue for 1.4 km walking for about 20 minutes

Alternatively, you can get to Munich Central Station and take the U4 from Hauptbahnhof to Theresienwiese ( SEE ON MAP ).
Bus from Terminal 1 to the New Munich Trade Fair Center with departures approximately every 30 minutes. Travel time is about 45 minutes.
Cab : from the airport, it will take 30/35 minutes for a total of about 50 €.

THE OKTOBERFEST FROM A PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE.

In 2017 the GOETHE INSTITUTE commissioned us a reportage during the penultimate week of Oktoberfest, known as “Italian Week” due to the large presence of Italian tourists. We were there with 2 Davide and Riccardo, 2 colleagues from our collective plus FABIAN SCHREYER , a fellow street photographer from Germany.
